Highway Funding Bill and OSHA Penalties

At the beginning of November, the House of Representatives passed the NECA-supported Surface Transportation and Reauthorization Reform, a six-year $325 billion bill to fund the federal highway and mass transit programs. The legislation cleared the House in an overwhelming 363-64 vote.  This is a crucial step forward, as many construction projects have been cancelled or delayed due to a lack of long term funding.  The House and Senate will attempt to consolidate each of their versions before the November 20th deadline.

While the Transportation bill was a big win for NECA contractors, Construction firms around the country also suffered a setback in the new two year bipartisan budget that will increase OSHA penalties, for the first time since 1990, by up to 80%.
